The West at Work project is directed by the Skills and Competitiveness Board.
This Board is employer led and membership is available here. This is a new West of England body, which held its inaugrual meeting on 22 April 2010.
The aims of the Skills and Competitiveness Board are to:
- Prepare and implement a West of England Employment and Skills Strategy;
- Encourage action to increase the competitiveness of the sub-regional economy, leading to high levels of business investment, economic growth and employment, (especially in growth sectors, such as the knowledge economy, and priority locations, such as South Bristol and Weston-super-Mare);
- Work with businesses to express and respond to their needs and priorities, and to strengthen their commitment to investment in skills,including the skills ofyoung people;
- Ensure business and other major employers play a lead role in the developing and directing the employment, skills and competitiveness strategies for the sub-region;
- Represent and promote the views and interests of the sub-region on skills, employment and competitiveness to Government and its agencies.
