A new strategic planning group has been set up to design a masterplan for regeneration success in South Bristol. The plan will form a framework to ensure all developments in, and strategies/developments or plans affecting, South Bristol can be made to yield the best value to Bristol residents in terms of environment, jobs, housing and prospects. This is designed to ensure balanced and sustainable communities. The strategic planning group aims to do the following.
- Develop and deliver a new social, economic, physical and environmental regeneration plan for South Bristol that will tackle the entrenched deprivation that exists in some parts of the area.
- Provide leadership and long term vision for South Bristol.
- Provide a new forum that brings together key decision makers from the public, private and voluntary sectors to work with local people to plan South Bristol’s future – delivering real and beneficial change that builds on the area’s existing strengths and achievements.
Economic indicators forecast that growth in Bristol will increase at a steady rate over the next twenty years. As a result of these market forces and likely changes to government planning policy, Bristol is expected to need to accommodate some 27,000 new homes over the next 20 years.
South Bristol has been identified as one of the key areas in the sub region with the capacity to benefit from this growth. South Bristol has also been identified as one of three key Regeneration Zones in the emerging Regeneration Strategy for the city.
